Understand the importance of identifying and reducing work related stress:

At the the end of this session you will have:

  • Developed a 12 month action plan that enables your team members to manage their stress more effectively.

Originally developed as a 2-hour session in a one day conference with Chief Oficers from a Age Concern, this session has formed the foundation for several projects in commercial and not-for-profit organisations. This outline was the basis for the after lunch session with Age Concern.

"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."
Goethe

Stress is an individual's physical, mental and behavioural reaction to pressure and its effects can be devastating.  Work related stress is thought to affect as many as one-in-five employees and lead to 6.5 million sick days per year.  It is vital that we recognise the sources of pressure and manage them.  This is especially important for those who head organisations - they have to look out for their people as well as themselves.

In this session we will:

  • Understand the sources of stress
  • Thresholds and the Pressure/Performance curve
  • Perception is reality
  • Recognise the symptoms of stress
  • The "physical - emotional - behavioural - social" spiral
  • Fight or Flight response
  • Identify different reactions to stress - Carrier, Transmitter or Dumper?
  • Balancing the pressure
  • Develop and action plan for ourselves and our people
  • Importance of control
  • Identify the triggers
  • Circle of Influence
