Here are examples of two different management development workshops
designed by Ally to address different learner populations. The first
focuses on developing a group of experienced managers and the second is
geared towards those about to start their first management post.
The workshops have formed the basis for a number of
projects in variety of settings including charities and
faith-based organisations as well as commercial enterprises.
2-day workshop for experienced managers:Designed to
stimulate a change in organisational culture and management style with
a group of managers and directors resistant to change. The participant
centred workshop using a series of ‘discovery’ style modules included
the following areas:
- Managing through goal setting
- Overcoming obstacles and problem solving
- Motivation by understanding the personalities
- Motivational theory in practice
- Learning styles and positive communication
- Development through self coaching
- ‘The Learning Circle’ – a model for continuous improvement
2-day workshop for new managers:Designed to allow
each one to discover the skills and confidence to manage and develop
their teams effectively. Drama, group work, role-plays and case
histories were used to expose and experience ‘leadership qualities’ in
a safe but challenging environment. Topics covered included:
- Bridging the gap between shop-floor and boardroom
- Managing your mates – getting the balance right
- Motivating the team – understanding the personalities and motivational factors
- Understanding and managing burnout
- Correcting unacceptable performance
- The context of coaching – Sgt Major or Social Worker?
